We head out tomorrow early, early. Looking at Google traffic, I'm glad we made this decision. It was RED all the way from our house up to the Grapevine, which means a 6 hr. drive would've taken more like 8 or 9. So tomorrow we should have smooth sailing if we leave early. We've done it once before, and it's nice to just fly. That said, we are trying to pack up the car and get the house in decent shape before we leave. Sadly I feel less than industrious, so I'm hoping I still pull it all together in time to get to bed early.
Baking in the oven is my favorite apple crisp. I'm a little bummed because I had quick oats and not regular old fashioned oats--the latter really makes a better crisp. But it's also hard to go wrong with brown sugar and butter. It's my sister-in-law's favorite dessert, so I am bringing it for Thanksgiving. I've never been a huge fan of pumpkin pie, so I'm glad there will be something yummy there for Jen and me.
I'm so looking forward to Thanksgiving. I am always sad when I hear of people who don't like turkey. It's just one of my favorite meals (if the turkey is made right--dry turkey is icky). I love the stuffing and turkey and rolls especially. The green beans are good. Everything else is ancillary. And leftovers are part of the wonderfulness of it all. I always read these magazines that tell you what to do with leftovers, like casseroles and stuff, but I'm like, dude, you just EAT them. Super yum 2nd time around.
Out of steam! Goodnight, all!

Wondering what "it was red" means - it must be a new traffic system - new within the last 6 years that I don't know about. =)
Yes, I'm one of "those." Turkey to me is just bland. BUT, if you take your fork, and pile on turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and gravy into one enormous bite, then I think it's DIVINE. =)
Never been a fan of pumpkin pie either. Do people really love it or do they just fake it to seem like a true American? =) For me chocolate really needs to be represented at every holiday in some shape or form.
I never knew the oat type mattered in apple crisp. That's Chris's favorite dessert so I'll make a mental note of it.
Red means 0-25mph average speed--YUCK!
Steve adores pumpkin pie. He eats it for breakfast the next day. But not just any pumpkin pie, it must be his mother's pumpkin pie. =) I eat it when it's between that and pecan pie, which I find blechy. With a ton of cool whip it's not too bad. My other favorite to make is a lemon meringue tart.... OH MAN, that is good. I agree about the chocolate, though, Susan. =)
Was your drive ridiculously slow around the 210 where the fires were? I also hit some traffic up in the grapevine because it was foggy up there. So yeah, it was a lot faster than driving up on Wednesday, but I must officially say that I think your description of "flying" didn't quite match the reality. :)
Traffic was a lot thicker this year than in the past, but we still made it in 5 1/2 hours.
